GRADE 5

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our Grade 5s have continued to work hard throughout the past couple of weeks. The following are some reflections made by the students.

Mahnoor: Our novel study book is called ‘Staying Alive in Grade 5’ by John Marsden. We have only read a few chapters together as a class. One activity that we did was describing the characters. I chose Miss Holland (a teacher in the book) because she seemed strict and interesting.

Sibel: During reading, we have been focusing on finding the ‘Main Idea’. It’s the most important part of the text. We did worksheets where we read the text as a group and tried to find the main idea. Sometimes it’s really easy and sometimes it can be tricky.

Ava: We have been doing narratives during writing. So far I have written stories named “Little Red Riding Hood” where I changed the ending, and “The Unexpected”, a story about a special snail. I enjoy doing narratives because you get to be creative, make the story fun and create problems to make it interesting for the reader.

Mehsin: We have been doing lots of topics in Maths. We used protractors to measure the angles of objects in class and rulers to measure the perimeter of things like our desks and books. We also used them to find the different types of angles.
